Location: Ibagué, Tolima | Collective: ASMUCAES & Bio-Artesanos

The History: In the heart of Tolima, coffee has long been a symbol of survival. This region, once scarred by decades of internal conflict, is now being reclaimed by a collective of women who refuse to let the past define their future. Many of these producers were left as heads of households, managing small 2-hectare plots while raising families. They realized that their strength lay not in volume, but in “Bio-Artesanry”—the craft of producing coffee that honors the earth.

The Mission: The Bio-Artesanos movement is a radical departure from industrial farming. These women have turned their farms into closed-loop ecosystems. Instead of chemical fertilizers, they cultivate “mountain microorganisms” gathered from the surrounding virgin forests to create organic ferments that nourish the soil. This isn’t just “organic” coffee; it is restorative agriculture.

The results are felt in the cup. Their specialty portfolio lots carry a distinct “vibrance”—a clean, honeyed sweetness and a red-fruit profile that feels alive. By partnering with these associations, AXIS ensures that the 35% premium we pay above the market goes directly into community funds that support education and food security for these families. When you brew this coffee, you are tasting the resilience of a community that has woven peace into every single bean.
